Checkweighing with Eagle X-Ray
Ths video will show you how to use the checkweighing function on your Eagle x-ray machine to verify the weight of your product. This includes "weight-learn", "auto-zero", and functions for Quality Assurance.
Weight-Learn
To access the check-weight calibration, we must log into a higher user level. Select ‘Menu,’ ‘User Level,’ and ‘Member of QS.’ Input the QS password and select ‘Login.’ Now, select ‘Back’ to return to the main screen. Weight Calibrations are per product and per lane, so please make sure the correct profiles are selected. Next to the weight statistic on the right side of the screen is a spanner icon. The spanner icon is used throughout the HMI to indicate physical value adjustments. You may also see this icon by count operators, rejects, etc. Select the spanner next to the weight statistic to open the weight set-up page.
The machine can be set up to operate with 2, 3 or 5-zone weight. The screens look slightly different from each other. On this first screen, we enter the high, low, and nominal weight points as necessary. Tare will be entered during the learn weight cycle, and offset is an informational result from the calibration. It cannot be changed.
One representative sample of the product to be learned should now be weighed on a regular, calibrated weight scale. Please remember the result. Additionally, weigh an example of empty packaging and remember the result. These weights will be attributed to the greyscale in the product image and compared to zero to generate a weight slope. To begin, select ‘Learn Weight.’
First we enter the tare weight—the weight of the packaging or anything not included in the nominal weight—and hit set.
Next, we insert the product we weighed into the machine a minimum of 3 times. Position and presentation are important. The most accurate results will come from products that have consistent presentation and position. Once you have completed running the product, enter the product weight from the scale into the highlighted field and select ‘Set.’
Now, if you select ‘Accept,’ the new parameters will be used. ‘Cancel’ will keep the previous parameters. If your values are not consistent enough when running the same product, you may need to redo the weight learn.
Auto-Zero
There is another calibration that can be used if your values are consistent but start to drift away from the scale value—Auto-Zero. It works by taking the base calibration from Weight Learn, but just corrects the drift with an offset. Follow the directions on the screen—they are very similar to the Weight Learn, with just a few less steps.
QA Functions
There are 2 more useful weight functions to learn back on the main screen. This icon with an arrow will reject the next product and display its weight. It’s a simple way to make QA weight checks easier. You retrieve a product, get an x-ray weight, and verify reject function with a single button.
The Histogram button brings up the weight statistics page for the current production run. There are three views of the same data. The period examined can be adjusted for these views using the delta t button at the top left of the screen. The first tab is a timeline, useful for examining patterns. Next is a histogram, looking at the distribution of weights. Finally, there is a simple report with weight accepts and rejects in all zones.
