Screw feeders will be fed by some kind of conveyor from storage vessels, like a screw conveyor—which are sometimes confused with screw feeders.

What’s the difference between volumetric and gravimetric screw feeders?
Volumetric screw feeders dispense material at a consistent rate by volume, while gravimetric feeders measure the feed rate by weight. Volumetric is easier to configure and is even more precise when the product is perfectly consistent. This is because load cells (used in gravimetric applications) have their own margin of error and delay in feeding information back to the feeder. However, gravimetric screw feeders will be more accurate for products that are not consistent and have clumps that are heavier than others.
