Custom X-Ray Machines For Food
ABM Equipment provides custom x-ray machines for food applications and similar product inspection applications.
Existing Machine Customizations
Sometimes a supplier will offer features you want, just not on the size of machine you need. Sometimes you have a unique and relatively simple need that doesn't exist on any machine. In either case, ABM may be able to help.
Screen Alterations
If a machine is too tall for the operators, ABM can do a "knock-out" (sometimes called a bevel) to tilt the screen down for easier access. If operators are changing locations often or operating the machine from somewhere other than directly in front of it, ABM can put the screen on a swing-arm.
Custom Rejects
If the common reject mechanisms available don't quite fit your need, ABM can build custom reject systems or optimize existing ones.
Washdown Upgrades
If washdown is not available on the size of machine you need, ABM will add seals and make the housing more robust if needed, adjusting the closing mechanism to hold doors and cabinets closed more firmly.
Product Guides
If you're having trouble getting product oriented correctly before it hits the x-ray's conveyor, or you're having trouble with it rolling once inside the unit, ABM can install guides to steady the product.
Custom Legs
If your machine is too tall or short, or needs to be adjustable, ABM can chop down the legs or built a new frame (or mounting method). We can also make custom legs for uneven or sloped floors.
Shielding or Curtain Alterations
If you need curtains to be cut or curtainless shielding to be applied to a machine that doesn't come with it, ABM can design the solution or cut the curtains, performing the RAD survey to ensure it's compliant.
Custom Machine Widths & Conveyor Lengths
If your machine is too wide for your line, ABM can shorten the conveyors, and in some instances even shorten the width of the machine.
Scanner Integrations
For item traceability integrations or automatic profile switching (to change machine presets on the fly), ABM can integrate RFID scanners or simple barcode scanners. The latter can be 1, an automatic scanner mounted on the cabinet to scan incoming barcodes if packages are oriented consistently or 2, a hand scanner mounted on and connected to the machine with a piece of paper with different barcodes on it that operators can scan when running a different product.
Custom Conveyors
If you need a different type of conveyor than is offered by your provider, ABM can swap out the conveying method, including the bed, belt type, and drive type.
Custom Applications and New Machines from the Ground Up
There was a time when the only existing x-ray applications had spacing between each product. So when we (ABM and Eagle) had a customer making soup that wanted to inspect a continuous stream, we had to develop that application—how images were handled, how the machine was designed, how the product was rejected, and how sample contaminants could be used to verify the performance of the machine. But after Eagle made the first pipeline machine, other manufacturers followed suit and now there are a number of acceptable imitations on the market.
Custom Applications
If you have a product that will fit in existing machines but you can't find any solutions that fit unique needs, ABM will coordinate with Eagle to configure a solution that works for you.
New Machines from the Ground Up
If you have a product that won't fit into any existing machine or feed into it properly (as was once true for sachets and webs), we may be able to help design an entirely new machine for you. In these instances, ABM will provide an engineering package that will be set against the cost of your machine if everything works out, so you don't have to commit to the cost of a custom new machine before you know if it's practical.
